C4U C4U Elizabethan Music Volume 3John Dowland, 1563 - 1625, is best known for his "melancholy" songs and like many of his contemporariesÊwas an accomplished lutenist. Generally thought to have been born in London, he worked at both the FrenchÊand Danish courts before ending his life as a lutenist at the court of James 1 in London.
